Executive Director of the ASEAN Foundation, Dr. Makarim Wibisono, opened the CSR Thailand 2013 Conference jointly organised by CSR Club of Thai Listed Companies Association chaired by Mr. Wattana Opanontamata, the ASEAN CSR Network, and Thaipat Institute. The Conference was held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok on 12-13 November 2013 and themed “CSR Roadmap for ASEAN”.
The objective of this Conference was to promote and support the CSR efforts in the area of environment, social, and governance which consequently would help creating the sustainability of the nation. Participants of this Conference were members of the ASEAN CSR Network and the CSR Club of Thai Listed Companies Association who were mainly responsible for issues of sustainability and CSR. The Conference was also open for public participation. At the Conference, the “Sustainability Report Awards” were given out as a way to promote and support those companies that disclosed information and/or companies that had initiated a policy to write report on their CSR efforts.
Opening the Conference, Dr. Makarim Wibisono pointed out that CSR in ASEAN was a new issue which became one of the region’s priorities. He stated that the Blueprint for ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community included – as part of its strategic objectives – ensuring that corporate social responsibility was incorporated in the corporate agenda and contributed towards sustainable socio-economic development in ASEAN Member States. He further mentioned that ASEAN as a responsible region placed welfare for all its peoples as priority and thus, the ASEAN CSR Network should continue to promote CSR among corporations in the ASEAN region in the right way of giving back to the community as well as the environment.
